China’s statement at the 37th Session of UNIDO PBC Agenda Item 7:Programme and budgets, 2022–2023

My delegation welcomes the fact that this budget has, for the first time, been prepared following the results-based budget principle. We hope that the Secretariat, through this budget preparation exercise and continued focus on UNIDO’s four core functions of technical cooperation, policy analysis and advisory services, norms and standards, and convening and partnerships, will better promote industrial development in developing countries, in particular give full play to the important role of industrialization in post-pandemic reconstruction, and impetus to the implementation of the 2030 sustainable development agenda.

My delegation has noted a considerable increase in the budget for the 2022-2023 fiscal period. We hope the Secretariat will be able to take into full account the negative impact of COVID-19 on the finances of some member states and take multiple measures to efficiently utilize available resources, improve efficiency and minimize the financial burden of member states. At the same time, we also call on member states to take into full consideration UNIDO’s actual requirements, show flexibility and provide sufficient funding for UNIDO to deliver technical cooperation services.
