Madam President,

First of all, on behalf of the Chinese delegation, please allow me to congratulate you on your election as the President of the current Industrial Development Board session. I am confident that under your able leadership, this session will achieve a full success. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank your predecessor H.E. Ambassador Maria Zeneida Angara for her outstanding contribution to the previous IDB session.

In January this year, the Chinese government officially nominated Mr Li Yong as the candidate for the post of Director General of UNIDO. As the only candidate for this post, Mr Li Yong will be re-elected as the Director General of UNIDO. China appreciates the support of member states to the nomination of the Chinese government, and in particular, we would like to thank those member states who explicitly expressed their strong support to Mr Li Yong’s candidature either orally or through note verbale.

Since assuming duty as the Director General of UNIDO in June 2013, Mr. Li Yong has led UNIDO in spearheading active reform and innovation and has achieved new breakthroughs in strategy, operation and management of the Organization, as exhibited by the reputation and influence of the Organization has been significantly enhanced, the concept of inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID) is integrated into the Goal 9 of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, the Program for Country Partnership (PCP) has been highly recognized by developing countries and UNIDO has strengthened its management, improved its performance and achieved positive outcomes. All these achievements received wide support and appreciation from member states.

Madam President,

The Chinese government will, as always, support the work of Director General Li Yong and UNIDO. China will make a voluntary contribution of US $ 24 million from 2017 to 2020 to UNIDO. We hope that under the leadership of the Director-General Li Yong, UNIDO will continue to assist developing countries and countries with economies in transition in their economic development and industrialization processes, therefore contributing to the implementation of the 2030 sustainable development agenda.

I thank you Madam President.
