Statement by the head of the Chinese delegation at the 40th IDB session of UNIDO
Dear Mr. President,

First of all, please allow me, on behalf of the Chinese delegation, to congratulate you on your election as the president of this Board session. At the same time, our congratulations also go to the other members of the Executive Bureau for their election. I am confident that under your able guidance, this Board session will be crowned with success.

The Chinese delegation would like to thank the Director-General for his opening remarks. Mr. Yumkella and the Secretariat under his leadership have in the past year made a tremendous effort in actively developing partnership with Member States and other institutions, deepening UNIDO's internal restructuring and reform and enhancing UNIDO's capabilities for project financing and implementation, which have in turn improved the status and image of UNIDO in international development cooperation, while at the same time providing a lot of excellent services to Member States, in particular, developing countries. We highly commend UNIDO's efforts in this regard. The Chinese delegation would also like to welcome the statements made by various honorable ministers. This session is the only session held by the Board this year, which has attracted the full attention from all parties. It is our belief that through an active discussion on all the agenda items, this Board session will play an active role in promoting the future work and development of UNIDO.

We have noted with satisfaction that since the end of the summer break this year, the Secretariat has densely organized various events in different forms, such as briefings, seminars, consultations and other activities with a view to helping member states gain a comprehensive understanding of UNIDO, promoting communication and cooperation between each other and laying the foundation for achieving more positive results at this session.
